Digital Rape: Keeps our fingers crossed!

Couple of weeks ago a tale in Instablogs surfaced that some scoundrel physically abused one of our bloggers in a crowded bus. It shocked me that a girl of modest living, instead of bringing the culprit to books had preferred writing so candidly, where it served an entertainment by which she could raise few sympathetic defenders like me.

I could come across an astonishing age-old sexual offensive in the dailies. The following news which ran as “a court was concerned with the lesser sentences given to culprits committing sexual assault of different forms due to absence of a stricter law, Delhi High Court has asked the Centre to consider the law commission report and include digital rape while widening the definition of rape”

It further went to say,” On June 7, 1996 evening, Dutt had forced his fingers into the private parts of a five-year-old daughter of his relative when her mother a domestic help was away for work. Initially, police booked Dutt on charge of rape the maximum punishment would be life sentence but later the trial court converted the offence into outrage of modesty and sentenced to the maximum punishment of two years jail term by the trial court”
The coin “THE DIGITAL RAPE” is an obnoxious sex play by fingers into the genitals of the victims be it a small girls or children. These kinds of mischief happen in crowded buses, trains, all the common places like schools and marriage halls etc. The isolated places are quite vulnarable spots for these troubleshooting rogues.

Pedophile is a term for the maniacs who have a greater liking for sexual acts with children. Many of the pedophiles are reported to be the foreign tourists camping in pilgrim centers of India, according some leading magazines.

One of the Chennai based a popular investigative weekly magazine made an elaborate account how these foreigners are active with young poor boys, sex-video graphing along with local young girls, exploiting their poverty.

A leading arthopoedic surgeon became a notorious juvenile pornographer, now behind bars, and a religious head has fathered a thirteen-year old girl.

Laws should have not only clauses but also claws to curtail the grave social menace of child sexual assault and to prevent minors from accessing age-inappropriate sex criminals.

The NGOs should express an explicit interest in regulating and organizing to trap these sexually maniacs to the concerned authorities and must be watchful in gay areas.

An over enthused pamperer with kiddies is not a good sign of normal relations, says a psychologist. He becomes a driving force of child’s libido.

Sex is so strong an instinct that it also exists in children as infantile sex urge. Modern gadgets like TV and mobile phones with erotic communications all that need a child for a spoilt broth and its life to become an easy victim to the sex maniacs.

Parents have to be very sensible and able sense to distinguish who is vivacious and who is the innocent fox.

This particular problem is so vast and deep that it will take a lot of efforts from each one of us to get it eradicated from the human society. These things exist everywhere and some very strict rules need to be made in this context along with making sure that they get implemented when such case is highlighted.

Gerald,

You are true to the fact,of course.

The Indian Law needs more wider definition and stricter punishements.
It is a scar in every society and land.

Monsters that is what they are called but pedophiles is their term, people call them what they like but still nothing gets really done about recognizing the problem and dealing with it, it has always been there, all you need to do is take a look around the world where kids live with abuse every day of their lives, and in some cultures the kids think it is normal to be exposed like that, but in the end of the day the kids end up dead or have to deal with emotional problems all their life and not even know how too deal with it, some countries don't have COUNSELORS to take to. I've seen all this.

Ryan,
Thank you. You have really added more important points and hints to the age old malady. Quite a lot still has to be written on the subject.

Psychologists, sexologists, psychiatrists all have the same voice that while the children are in the infantilel sex urge, the miscreants take the advantage.

we shall stop individuals who would harm a child by forcing them into a situation they are not ready for.

The idea is really good. How to stop is a big question. Have you heard that a father had illicit relations with his daughters and his wife was an accomplish for this dirty game!

This is ridiculous! When a child is not safe in the hands of his own parents, how come they will feel safe with the strangers. Such parents should be fired.

So true, laws alone will not do it. We have to teach our children early about good touch vs. bad touch. Public service announcements on TV helped me talk to my kids about it when they were little. Oprah Winfrey talking about it on her show is what started the campaign.

These kindda people are sick mentally and need should be under observance all the time.

Parents also have to take responsibility of giving sex education to children and tech them on how to deal with such maniacs

Jocelyn,

A perfect comment.Thank you. In India sex is a taboo. But the entertainment media are so vile, they both are juxtaposed. The children become sly and stealthy and succumb to bad circumstances.

It is our duty and responsibility to teach our children to be bold enough to oppose such people and report it to us or teachers in case of schools, and in case he culprit doesn't stop, the child should start shouting and let the people around him know so that they can help the kid.

Make your child BOLD!

Actually Jocelyn’s comment is all wrong from a post-modernist point of view.

I - These kind of people are sick mentally and need should be under observance all the time. -

This implies 3 major problems:
1) Who is going to decide who is mentally ill? Of course it’s easy to see after a crime has been done but the point is to prevent these kinds of crimes before they happen.
2) An enormous expense for the state and taxpayers to carry out such a program.
3) An enormous infringement on people’s rights - A person is put under observation BEFORE they have committed ANY crime. Otherwise the idea does not work because ... we already do this to convicted child/sex offenders.

II - It is the parents responsibility to teach children how to protect them from maniacs? Get real.

1) Funny how both of Jocelyn’s solutions are directed towards to ulterior goal of the right to ”leaving your kids with strangers” for a movie, a date, work or what have you.

She says that it is the parents responsibility to teach their kids about ”sex education”. What happened to - it is the parents responsibility to protect your kids from sexual predators? No child can reasonably be expected to protect it’s self from a ”maniac”. Grown armed cops sometimes have trouble protecting themselves from ”maniacs”, we can’t in a millions years reasonably expect children to protect themselves. And, frankly, it’s mostly uncles doing this (YOUR BROTHERS, FOLKS). Do you propose a program that watches half the males in the country?

Parents must take responsibility for watching their kids at all times, as Nuya Bidness has pointed out. Perhaps they should get a tax credit or grant but for now they HAVE to do it for free. And while we’re at it, all of their education (including sex ed), health (including diet) etc. This really isn’t something new. But irrational trust of the government or your uncle, brother etc. may cause your children to enter adulthood psychologically scarred, a pathetic, hopeless and life long ”loser”. But my slogan is NOT ”trust no one”. Rather ...

”I don’t want my kids to end up damaged goods so we could enjoy hanging out”. It’s my responsibility is to get her genes to adulthood and all of her offspring’s genes to adulthood. So I want her to be the most capable leader possible.

You have to do both, teach them about stranger danger and keep a close eye on them. No matter how hard you try, how diligent you are, you will still get distracted from time to time and it only takes a minute for some sicko to snatch your kid in public places. Also you have to teach about the inappropriate touching even if you are not leaving your child with relatives. It can happen at family gatherings or when the relative is visiting. You can not lock yourself in the house with your kids and never have contact with others, so it is better to be safe than sorry.

The idea that laws will prevent crime is spurious. If it is against the law to take heroin will a heroin addict quit? BTW sex is a far more powerful drug than heroin. How many have destroyed their jobs, families, marriages etc. for a little sex? Laws only refrain the law abiding or those not really interested in doing a crime. Laws can only redress grievances after some injustice has been done. Do you really believe that some rapist is thinking about the possibility of 20 years in jail for rape? If they were, rape would be wiped out. Obviously they don’t. Stop living in the fantasy land of ”increasing punishments” will end crime. Punishments were far worse before the 19th century and people still did crimes.

I know a quite wealthy girl who was assaulted by her fathers brother for years because they trusted the guy to watch her. After they found out they did nothing except to not invite the guy over anymore. They didn’t need the scandal in the family. The only way to protect your children is to always keep your own eye on your kids. I only leave my kids with my mother and sister. Trust everybody else and your taking a chance with your children’s lives just so you can enjoy a movie or go to a party.

You have misunderstood my comment.I am not advocating for a harsher punishment.I am just saying if authorities take care about proper implementation of law will it not reduce the crimes ?I s such strictness not going to instill fear in the minds of wrongdoers ? That if they committed the crime they will eventually find themselves behind the bars.In other words, there will be no escape route once they committed the crime. The moment investigative agencies start doing their job well and courts started making the convictions faster I have no hesitation in stating that crime rate is bound to lessen.

One of the prime reasons why crime, especially in India,is increasing because wrong people or for that matter potential criminals are too confident that once they commit the crime there are thousands of escape routes. This coupled with slow judicial process makes the life easier for wrongdoers.

I made my point of view keeping in mind this aspect. It’s crystal clear that if authorities be really bothered about proper implementation of laws, the criminals will never be able to execute their nefarious designs. I remember an article that stated how police working in sync with local people managed to attain a crime free reign for a very long time.

However,it’s a harsh reality that crimes can never be eliminated altogether from our society be it progressive or traditional. But that does not mean we should not make attempts to reduce the crime rate.

( P.S. Posting this comment as an article.)

There must be laws and it shoould be enforced with letter and sprit. In case of sexual assault especially of minor one,it should be more strickter.
Some of the Islamic laws are very severe.
The Talibans are misusing it on the common people.Talibans have no right to such law. That is quite a different matter.

Some of the laws in Islam are very strickt,if adultery is committed, they are slashed and stoned. It is barbaric in the present day scenario. Is not sex assault on children barbaric?
Islamic laws are enacted with letter and spirit and the crime rates are less in those countries. Forget Talibans. They are terrorists. They themselves need bitterest punishments. They are disgrace to Islam.Kindly don’t elaborate it as it will lead to wider debate.

I’m not convinced that jail time reforms sexual predators. In some cases it may have an effect, but most of the time, I believe, they should be separated from open society on their own island or something.

”Talibans have no right to such law.”
Is this to imply someone else has the right to ”such law”?

”It is barbaric in the present day scenario.” Stoning is brutal at any time. Otherwise 2000 years ago Jesus wouldn’t have objected to it.

”Is not sex assault on children barbaric?” Interesting that you ascribe sexual assaults against children to barbarism. Primitive people don’t normally assault their children. Sexual assaults on children is more the result of civilization than the primitive or ”barbaric”.

”They are terrorists. They themselves need bitterest punishments.”
You sound as blood thirsty as them.
If your both equally blood thirsty why should people join your side? You have no moral high ground, which is why Pakistan will probably be consumed by the Taliban too.

”Kindly don’t elaborate it as it will lead to wider debate.”
What is this supposed to mean?

”The Taliban are rude terrorists”

Funny, we now call them terrorists. When they were fighting the Soviet Union they were freedom fighters. Actually, none of the alleged terrorists who attacked the World Trade Center were from Afghanistan. The vast majority were actually from Saudi Arabia. But that’s not mentioned in the mass media. By what basis are the Taliban terrorists? They did not participate on the attack against the World Trade Center, they fought the Soviet Union, when the United States asked the Taliban to hand over Osama Bin Ladin they merely asked for evidence. I think any country would do the same.

The only reason the Taliban are terrorists is because they’re resisting the American invasion of their country and winning. You have been brainwashed by the mass media. I think a better solution would be to let the Taliban have their extremist Islamic state in the mountains of Afghanistan if they want. Just let them live in peace in their corner of the world. Now we’ve screwed it all up and it looks like it’s growing. The same think happened in Cambodia. The US bombed and invaded it in 1973 and a much larger problem was created.

I said that primitive people DO NOT sexually assault their children. ”Barbaric” is a term meaning primitive, uncivilized people. Sexual assault against children is a disease of civilization, not barbarism.

I could learn about ”AMBER ALERT” and it is quite useful in tracing the missing children. I could gather elemenatary knowldege from Wikipedia, and the source is very useful. Why not Instablogs members associate to help trace the missing children through ”Amber Alerts” in their respective countries. May I furnish below what ”Amber Alert” is :

”An AMBER Alert is a child abduction alert bulletin in the United States and Canada, as well as other countries, issued upon the suspected abduction of a child. AMBER is officially a backronym for ”America’s Missing: Broadcasting Emergency Response” but was originally named for Amber Hagerman, a 9-year-old child who was abducted and murdered in Arlington, Texas in 1996. Exceptions are in Georgia, where it is called ”Levi’s Call”,[1] Hawaii, where it is called a ”Maile Amber Alert”,[2] and Arkansas, where it is called a ”Morgan Nick Amber Alert”.[3] Those plans were named after children who went missing in those states.
AMBER Alerts are distributed via commercial radio stations, satellite radio, television stations, and cable TV by the Emergency Alert System (where they are termed ”Child Abduction Emergency” or ”Amber Alerts”), as well as via e-mail, electronic traffic-condition signs, the LED billboards which are located outside of newer Walgreens locations,[4] along with the LED/LCD signs of billboard companies such as Clear Channel Outdoor, CBS Outdoor and Lamar,[5] and wireless device SMS text messages. Those interested in subscribing to receive AMBER Alerts in their area via SMS messages can visit Wireless Amber Alerts, which are offered by law as free messages.[6] In some states, the display scrollboards in front of lottery terminals are also used. The decision to declare an AMBER Alert is made by the police organization investigating the abduction. Public information in an AMBER Alert usually consists of the name and description of the abductee, a description of the suspected abductor, and a description and license plate number of the abductor’s vehicle, if available.”

See how cruel things do happen to young children. Following is highly horrondeous nature of killing children after sex assault. It happned in India some years ago:
At Noida,{India) sector 31 an industrially busy area, the skeletal leftovers of several children were found all dumped in sacks outside a house .Around 38 children had been in the list of missing children in a time frame of two years. The police discovered skulls of 19 children aged group of 3 to 15 years. One Satish Mahindra Sing was arrested as an accused.
Noida police discovered sacks of bodies mainly containing the skulls of 19 children aged between 3-15 years. The children had been missing for a year. This is presumably the victims of sex assault, rape and murder quite spine chilling.

Well, the buggers might not be thinking about jail time when they are doing it, but if they are in jail they can’t be doing it to anyone else.

For a century at lease people have been trying to ’cure’ sex offenders while they are in jail. It doesn’t work, almost all repeat their sick deeds when they get out. If there is no cure for it, then they need to have extremely long prison sentences, not just as punishment but to quarantine them and their disease from the rest of the population.

”For a century at lease people have been trying to ’cure’ sex offenders while they are in jail. It doesn’t work, almost all repeat their sick deeds when they get out.”

I would like to deconstruct these two sentences. Ostensibly they sound true and innocent enough but what is really behind these words.

First, before the 1960’s many modern concepts in mental health were merely exploratory or just being developed. Those ”cures” being done before the 1920’s were down right crude and most of the time damaged the case further. Most of this kind of research was directed in ending a women’s desire for sex and eradicating homosexuality, both spurious cause by today’s standards. The failure of the vast research directed at ”curing” sex offenders over the last ”century”, by contemporary standards, is not a logical criteria for condemning new research.
Second, though we cannot, as yet, cure them, if they were law abiding in all other ways they could be released to segregated communities to live reasonably normal lives after serving their time in incarceration.

My point, jail is not the solution. We’ve had jails for 10,000 years (a lot longer then ”a century”) and ”It doesn’t work” either.
(Global Perspectives)

They never stay in those segregated communities either. Have you ever looked on the sex offender page on the internet? The one where you type in your zip code and it shows the location of all sex offenders in your area? I did it years ago, I didn’t see any near my house but when I checked the school where I was working there were 15 just in the neighborhood that the school was in. I never let a student walk to the office alone again!

Jail might not cure them but it keeps them off the streets and until they find a cure it should be treated as a communicable disease and quarantined.

I think your comparing apples and oranges. You write, ”They never stay in those segregated communities either.”

1) Are these escapees? Or are these officially sanctioned moves? If you’re finding changes occurring on the official sex offenders website I would suggests that these are officially sanctioned re-locations. In other words, at present it is legal for these people to move as long as they’re registered. And if it is legal, well then, of course they would change their neighborhoods from time to time. But I wouldn’t call that ... ”They never stay in those segregated communities either” ... because those sex offenders are not restricted to segregated communities. There are 2 or 3 segregated communities of sex offenders in the entire country, I’m sure. Most prisons, like the New York City so-called ”Correctional System” let’s you off a bus with $5 in your pocket. Don’t kid yourself or buy into TV land.

2) What I’m suggesting is something totally different. Places where these people were RESTRICTED to communities, including their jobs. This DOES NOT exist in America nor on any website as of yet.

3) Did I make anything up? Did someone actually suggest that legally & freely roaming people don’t stay in segregated communities? And wonder why? The answer is ... free people move around from time-to-time. Why do we distort reality? Do we believe that one distortion of reality ”I will oppress the offender (who was probably raped by an adult when he was a child)” will cure another distortion of reality ”I will oppress children.” It hasn’t worked. It’s reminiscent of the village mob going hunting for Frankenstein. Clearly, that’s no solution. Then again, when the problem is the ruler of the village, you may have no choice, but I digress. I wish people would learn to deconstruct their own writing so I wouldn’t have to restate the obvious.

Of course most move in next door to schools, playgrounds, daycare centers, candy stores, anywhere access to children is easy. At least 100,000 sex offenders are non-compliant and no one knows where they are. 25 states have very minimal standards for tracking sex offenders and most requests to move are to those states.

What is there to deconstruct? I said that they should be locked up for the common good until a cure can be found. If you are worried about oppression, then they would never go to jail in the first place.

First, child molesters are not ”buggers”. Buggers is a derogatory term for homosexuals. Child molestation is pederasty. The two perversions are entirely different and do not overlap and it is ignorance to confound the two predilections.

You say that there are 100,000 non-compliant sex offenders in the US. Considering punishments were much worse 100 years ago, your methods have not ended child molestation nor will your methods help end it in the future as the very same methods certainly did not help in the past.

You say that child molesters gravitate to 25 states having minimal standards for tracking sex offenders. I would suggest you do not move to those states or if you live in one, perhaps you should beat a retreat. I, for one, watch my kids at all times but I don’t let my uncles or brothers watch them, so I don’t have to worry about my kids in any state.

Putting child molesters in jail is oppression. That’s why we put them into jail as a punishment but it’s an unavoidable oppression for the common good. And yes, I worry about everyone’s oppression, especially the oppression of children. But my motive in trying to help child molesters is not to simply help Chester the Molester but to end the abuse of more children.

To ”worry about oppression” does not mean that child molesters or any other criminal should not go to jail. It means that every punishment that is meted out by society must be carefully measured and achieve some positive goal. That you equate ”worry about oppression” with a completely exaggerated and supposed stand against all jails or criminal punishments is simply grandstanding and nonsense. If you believe that grandstanding and nonsense is a recipe for enlightened debate, no thank you, Mrs. Closed Minded.
