The inter faith marriage is still a stigma in Indian society. We have many cases how parents or parents-in-laws harassing the newly interfaith married couples. TwoCircles.net a popular website brings out a news report under the headline,” “Apex court comes to rescue of interfaith couple” on 21 May 2009.
“The Supreme Court Thursday ordered the family members of a Jammu and Kashmir-based Hindu girl married to a Muslim boy to stop troubling the couple as the girl is above 18 years and entitled to choose her life partner. A vacation bench of Justice Markandey Katju and Justice Deepak Verma issued the order on a lawsuit by the couple claiming that the girl’s family was harassing them in collusion with some local Shiv Sena leaders. The bench also asked the state police to provide security to the couple. The court personally asked the girl, Chanchili alias Mehvesh Anjum, and her husband Fiaz Ahmed Ahanger, about her age.
“If the parents do not approve the inter-caste or inter-community marriage, the maximum they can do is sever the social relationship with the girl. But they (family) cannot give her a thrashing, resort to violence or harass her,” the bench observed.”
The most horrific and agonizing issue in Fiaz and Chanchili alias Anjum is that a sabotage is said to be foisted against girl that she was by now legally wedded to a guy known as Dharshan Singh. A case has been registered “at Jammu’s Channi Himmat Police Station, claiming that Chanchili was his legally wedded wife and had been abducted by Fiaz” according to the available source. These miserable couple are running pillar to post - court after court to get unleashed from the turmoil but they are under dismay with futile outcome.
Let us see a similar case, (Source: CNN-IBN on Friday Oct 05, 2007) the tragic love tale of Rizwan-ur-Rahman, a Muslim teacher and Priyanka Todi of Kolkata:
“The case of Rizwan-ur-Rahman, a Muslim teacher allegedly killed by his Hindu in-laws for marrying their girl, has sparked a communal row in Kolkata. Priyanka Todi, the widow of Rehman was a young student from an affluent business family of the city. A letter written by Rizwan days before his death reveals that the police was harassing him for marrying Priyanka.”
“Rizwan’s family alleges that the cops and the girl’s family plotted his killing. Though a CID enquiry was ordered in the case, the report fails to name anyone for the alleged murder”.
Why so much howling is for an inter-faith marriage? My own analysis shows that the greater the orthodoxy, inculcated in a family, the acuity of faith is strong. In other words, whether family is genuinely fear God or not but the prestige and prejudice is more conceivable than to be flexible to interfaith marrying daughter. For most, it is not endurable if one of its daughters is being subjected to conjugal bliss especially with a Muslim boy. In such event, the orthodoxy and religious faction remain vehemently tough on the side daughter’s parents, and clandestine and undercover marriages do happen with duress and distress.
The two cases cited above is the best example of such interfaith marriages. The interfaith marriage does speak about Hindu-Muslim marriage alone. The disease is wide spread. A Shia is out of sight to a Sunni Muslim, Bhatkali, Bhora, Kutch Muslim so on and so forth all are divided and vied each other.
On a microscopic analysis, Inter-faith marriage is becoming out of taboo only in the elite society. Listed below is an account of interfaith marriages (Wiki Bin) but they are all from renowned celebrities. Perhaps more common interfaith marriages may be existing but they are not in the public eye.

For common men interfaith marriage is still a taboo. The names you have cited in your story are of dignitaries and for them religion is not a matter.

I know the romantic couples married. They lead a normal life. If the love is crystal pure,lives become easier. After few years especially after an issue parents reunite.

While you speak DNA,it brings to my mind that farer the relation in marriage is better the offspring. Think of botanical pollination of different kinds. The crosss pollination of far reaching mate is healthier. In Indian culture,we never to fail to notice some of the marriages are arranged within the blood relations. In few of such arrangements,there are offsprings with mental retardation,visually impaired,or some physical disabilities to be noticed. I feel personally that the primate if marriage is considered,it should be totally an alien, not at all related within the family.

The gene pool is an ocean and not a puddle, puddles are stagnant and oceans are alive. All religions that I have ever seen advocate incest, so how can we wonder at the deficiency of the human condition? It is inbreed and fostered by antiquated notions of clan and caste.

They got all caught up in the gossip, finger pointing and judgmental behaviors that goes along with religion. They were so busy trying to out ”holy roll” each other that they never noticed that their kids were doing drugs, getting pregnant, that their spouses were straying or drinking, that they were going in debt with the tithing and their friendships were dissolving. Kind of like Sarah Palin. Some of them managed to get out, but they are still twitchy and odd. This is not cults I am talking about, it was different mainstream religions. I accepted the invites before, but lunch was not enough to make me give up free will!

The crux of the whole issue is ”WHICH RELIGION IS TRUE”. How to prove and disprove? If I accept Christianity I am ostracised; I speak about Islam, I am bigot! What is the real solution! While on debate on atheism,friend of mine indicted me as a fool,and he was prepared to appreciate the one who could advocate multitheism. Sometimes truth become a point of insult.
All that required is fidility on existence of ONE GOD,whether Islam,Christianity,Hinduism,Judaism so on so forth. The question of interfaith and blood shed and terrorism will all fade away.
The atheist considers the theist fool; theist considers atheist fool. Who is the real fool?
Then you decide if it is the theist or atheist who are the fools.
Regarding the religion issue, I don’t think it is necessary that there is only one true religion. Humanity is above any religion, cast, sect, creed. Let’s teach our children that ’mankind is one’, rather than ’god is one’.
There is fidelity on existence of one God, especially in our Abrahamic religion. But still, you will find Catholics will not like a Catholic girl marrying a Protestant, though both believe in same God. Muslims will never like a Muslim girl marrying a Jewish boy, though both believe in one God.
I don’t have any problem people believing in one God, that is a good belief, but that will not necessarily help in reducing the taboo of inter - faith marriage.
And regarding monotheism and multitheism, where is the proof of one God. If God is one, how come there are multiple religions. One Prophet says I am the final Prophet, but then there were more messengers sent after it, and new religions formed. How come that happen if God is one.
Well, we will probably never be getting answers for all this!
Time for humanity to be educated and research the facts, the proof of our earths history and to look at the scientific evidence of our existance.
Humans need to understand that we are all one species, and to love another human being is - by far greater, happier and so rewarding than bitter hatred, fghting and misery.

As you have rightly said internet is a boon to manking,where we can do wonders to humanity, right from allevating human pains and humans to gain perfect knowledge. One must come out of fear of society especialy countries like Indian Peninsula, where ostracism still bitterly practised. See the hate policy in the above cited two married couples, how they suffer after marriage! They loved each other without the knowledge of both the parents for the fear of objections. As far their marriage part is concerned it is successful but their life is in misery. Who will help them and towhom they will blame? Should they blame their love affair?
