Is the launch of North Korean missile a secret?

US Criticism of N. Korea Lacks Credibility
By Jeremy Scahill, April 07, 2009

President Obama’s administration is pressing for diplomatic retaliation, perhaps in the form of more sanctions against North Korea, after Pyongyang launched a rocket into space. There are conflicting reports about the success of the launch. North Korea says the rocket carried a satellite, which is now orbiting the earth. That’s according to state-run media in North Korea, which reportedly broadcast patriotic songs and images of Kim Jong II, praising him for the launch.”

“The United States pushed Tuesday for a strong UN response condemning North Korea’s rocket test, which experts said had exposed the limitations of the communist state’s military.
“We are actively involved in consultation with partners at the United Nations, members of the Security Council, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton told reporters.”

“North Korea says its Sunday launch put a peaceful experimental communications satellite into orbit. Washington and its allies say the real purpose was to test a Taepodong-2 missile in defiance of UN resolutions”

My comments:

1) Does US Criticism of N.Korea lack credibility as reported?

2) Is North Korean Missile a matter of great concern? If so in what way?

3) Is Japan panic about this?

4) Is the missile a secret one?

5) When North Korea say publicly that its launch is meant for experimental communications through satellite into orbit, what exactly are the intricacies?

The USA has nuclear missiles, why shouldn’t North Korea have? Why do America feels insecure from North Korea?

If they'd shot it down, they might have risked debris falling onto their own country. It was safer to let the thing pass.. plus it would have been much more embarrassing if they'd fired at it and missed.

North Korea has made threats against Japan should they try to intercept the missile. It wasn't going to harm them, so there was no need to shoot it down, it would have made relations with North Korea even worse.

No, the entire world just made itself look like a pansy. I can't believe people ever put stock in the UN. All these Washington types saying there are going to be "big consequences".

Damn it North Korea, this is some bad timing. As if the US and the rest of the world doesn't have enough to worry about right now.

It's crazy to see how much a difference almost a century under different control makes. One side is launching rockets ruled by a crazy guy; other side having economic and technological success.

This firing a ballistic missile over Japan ain’t no joke. This is historic and it’s a serious provocation escalation. Should a missile have been fired over North Korea, they would have declared it an act of war.

It seems that if North Korea wanted to have a legitimate space program, they could alleviate fears by allowing UN inspectors/scientists in to determine the validity of their claim.

Daavid,

This is what precisely required. If there is an apprehension of any distructive functionality, this has to be dissipated by convention and morality commonly prevailing and as applicable.

Any scientific programme invented and tested for the betterment and constructive approach of human beings of its country and countries around it, such programmes are to be welcomed.

In North Korean Missile, North Korea should prove such validities and effectiveness to the world.
