Muslim leaders unanimous in criticizing Justice Katju’s comments
By Manzar Bilal, TwoCircles.net,
Recently a 16-year old Muslim student Mohammad Saleem of a Christian minority school in Madhya Pradesh has moved to the Supreme Court against an order of the MP High Court rejecting his petition challenging the decision of his school to throw him out for refusing to shave his beard.
On March 30, a Supreme Court Judge Justice Katju rejected the plea of Mohammad Saleem and passed a remark saying, “We don’t want to have Talibans in the country. Tomorrow a girl student may come and say that she wants to wear a burqa, can we allow it,” Justice Markandeya Katju said speaking for a bench headed by Justice Raveendran.
The comment of Justice Markandeya Katju angered Muslims community. Muslim leaders condemned it strongly and called it unfortunate for a democratic country.
Talking to TwoCircles.net Maulana Anisur Rahman Qasmi nazim of Imarat-e- Sharia Bihar, Jharkhand and Orisa, said: “This comment is because of narrow-mindedness and also because of insufficient study of religions while to have knowledge of religious obligations is necessary for a judge especially a Supreme Court judge”.
Following are my comments:
Taliban word is misunderstood grossly for terrorists operating presumably from Afghanistan. The word Taliban is derived from Arabic “Talab” to “seek”. Tulaba is a word to mean a student or a seeker of knowledge, and Taliban is plural of Tulaba, meaning “students”
As far the veil Islamic “Burqua” is concerned, Holy Quran ordains the woman to be moderate in the dress code: Chapter:24: verses 30 and 31. Most Muslim girls attend schools and colleges with modest veiled dresses, and many adolescent boys are with beard. As a matter of fact in Marwar most married women are under veil, a modest way to be with aliens.
The Christian Minority school, in question ought to know that Lord Jesus Christ and and his disciples had full beard. Can there be one picture of Jesus Christ hung (in that particular school wherein the boy was to get rid off his beard) without beard? Is not this so simple that the most Roman Catholic Fathers have beards. Don’t we see most Hindu sadhus with beards as a symbol of divinity. Is Sri Rama Krishna Parmahmasa without a beard?
Some of the modern schools and colleges parade the girls with mini skirts and T shirts and mostly to become a subject for sex proliferation and quite vulnerable for “kidnap and rape culture” and both have rapid crime rates? If these kind of bad precedents come under right of citizenship, why not this rights applicable to modest dress codes?
If this particular school dictates a term against a Muslim boy will amount to infringe practicing ones’ religious rights. There will be bigotry exposed and some Christian Minority Schools like this one become vulnerable for destructive criticism from the majority community.
Terrorists who attacked the hotel Taj were clean shaved. Women suicide bombers of LTTE don't wear burqa.
If administration is serious about Taliban and Talibanization of Indian culture (what ever may be the form) then it should address the cause of it, the growing religious intolerance among the people.
Every right thinking men and women do hate the rogues who have taken the names Islamic sounding names as Taliban to kill the innocents. As such Islam is nothing to do with these beasts.
Don’t take my word for it, the news is full of it.
As for beards, they are just nasty! Always with food and snot and what-not.
Some people are just to lazy to shave.
Those who have Burka system cannot be termed as totally protected and vice versa. Don’t deny the fact that many young hearts(please listen,I mean many- but not all)long for log for as much minimised clothes as possible. They wish to clone the theatrical dress code in real life which becomes a problem. Indeed, one cannot be fully clothed in Miami Beach and one cannot expect a class room to be Miami Beach.
Why you have an aversion to beard,Nuya? Please look the robost look of the (Punjabi)Sikh community. They are fully bearded, well trimmed with matching robes and attires.I hope you would appreciate them Nuya. They are not lazy. To shave it takes ten minutes of time. For setting the beard for Sardarjees it takes much longer time than shaving. They look handsome.
My husband grows a beard in the winter time to keep his face warm. It is truly disgusting! It feels horrible! I can’t kiss him for months because it is like rubbing my face with sand paper, it hurts. I have to wait until spring to see his face. Men who look like grizzly bears are not attractive at all.
How would men like it if women never shaved their legs or arm pits? They expect us to be well groomed and tend to our personal hygiene, they should do the same.
You are exposing your personal matter in frank manner. The hair growth in human body is hormonal process. The man is basically meant to live in jungle several millions of years ago. He has to hunt and get his prey. While confronting his enemies, the first sight was the face. In order to get the shock absorbed copious hair growth helped him.
The skull wherein the soft brain is located has to be protected well against any kind of shocks. So is the hair growth on the head. There are plenty of delicate blood vessels running through arm pits and other soft areas of body and hair growth is found. These are nature’s meaningful manovure as shock absorbes. As a matter of convenience,as the fashion grew, the necessity of these hairs are less felt. I don’t think so there is no other reason for shaving the hair.
I heard the murmur from your husband complaining that the hair on your head is pricking
him a lot while he kisses you on your head.He is my dearest friend. Nuya, you may please take it as my advice, not a command, better shave your head now and please help him. That will be good part of a wife to please her husband. Don’t you think so!
Crawl back in your cave with your beards and lice and enjoy the dark ages where you belong.
I just gave he history and origin of beard. Still people cherish, nurish and adopt it. Some as relious entity.
It’s purely matter of individualism.
The days have advanced and man made changes are there. But most physiological activities were there in cave ages and they continue even this minute. All sympathetic,CNS and para sympathetic nerve activites do functions even to day from the day the man was born. Do you find any changes in digestive, circulatory, respiratory, excretory, endocrine systems. It is your life style as the days advanced that you have changed. But you cannot change the physiological gifts of God. What will happen if you remove one pair of vagal nerve, out of twelve, as a fashion as you remove beard,Nuya?
What the hell are you talking about nerves for? Hair has no nerves! The body has changed over time, that is why we have redundant organs that can be removed with no ill effects, like appendix and tonsils.
If you want a crumb catcher attached to your face and walk around with bits of your breakfast in it all day, that is your business. Razor blades were invented to get rid of the stinking mess but if you like looking like a cave man or a dogs backside, so be it but don’t act like it is a good thing.
Nevertheless, please don’t have destructive criticism on the great beards in history; Confucius, Abe Lincoln, Rasputin, and Bernard Shaw all had bearded. It is regarded a symbol of dignity and wisdom. The Sikhs of India are known for great beards and religiously they are said not to remove single hair. Don’t you know that ancient China too adored it? It is a sign of virility and status. In 1830 beard became an emblem of French radicals.
You said your husband some time grows beards and you don’t find place to kiss him because his hair is prickly and spiteful to you. I wonder that no men will have hair on forehead and lips.
If I address you, very politely that you are ignorant of these, you get irritated.
When I say certain physiological and anatomical structures remain intact right from the origin of man, you speak Darwin’s theory. Appendix is a vestige organ but if it is diseased, it has to be removed. Tonsils are not vestige organs. Every child’s tonsil is not removed. If it is infected
it may be removed but these days there are good antibiotics, which work on tonsils well.
Nuya, Let us end this topic. I agree whatever you say. Kudos to you.
Obviously, you have never kissed a man, or you would know that more than just your lips come in contact with his face. Kiss the FOREHEAD? are you kidding me? He is my husband, not my child! An occasional kiss on the forehead is one thing, but to be limited to only platonic affection for a life time is rather bizarre.
Indian women must have skin tough as a rhinoceros to avoid friction burns from beards, or maybe they just never kiss at all. Its probably makes it easier if you don’t like the person you are married to.
antibiotics for tonsils, but no razors for beards.....utterly amazing!
